Champions of the Fractal Palace

A downloadable funnel adventure for Troika!

In a forgotten corner of the city of Troika stands the Fractal Palace. Bejewelled with iridescent white crystal, vast but folded into a single city block, the place is a maze of rooms within rooms, twisted self-similar passageways, and a thousand illusionary geometries. By its nature, it cannot be mapped - it is a living mass of shifting angles and scales. Some say that it is impossible to leave the same way that you entered.

At the centre of the palace lives it's champion, maintaining the balance of the palace’s transformations. And yet, the palace has become unstable, shifting through chaotic and barely navigable configurations. Suddenly, it is pushing against the city, interpenetrating surrounding buildings, unfolding fleeting entrance portals across every part of town. The city guard has sealed it off. Why is the palace acting like this? What has become of the champion? As newly deputised guards, it's down to you to find out!

This is a funnel adventure for the Troika! roleplaying game in a mini-zine format. You play four characters at the same time exploring the palace and trying to solve the mystery of its sudden transformations. The palace is procedurally generated and changes when the players aren't looking. Those who survive will become Champions of the Fractal Palace.

There are optional board tiles for the game. These are designed to work with the procedural generation method but are not required for play. The GM should be able to keep a note of the configuration of the palace.
